IBM may not be high in Gartner’s 2016 Magic Quadrant for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) but the company just inked a multi-year cloud partnership with Workday, a Software as a Service (SaaS) provider of finance and human resources enterprise applications. The deal will most likely include IBM’s BlueMix Platform as a Service (PaaS) offerings to Workday’s developers. As per Aneel Bhusri, Co-Founder and CEO, Workday :
“Workday will use IBM Cloud to continue accelerating Workday’s internal development and testing efforts to support our ongoing global expansion.”
IBM’s BlueMix PaaS combined with Softlayer based IaaS can offer Workday engineers a fast development and testing platform in the cloud and can save Workday investment in capital expenses. Workday will be able to focus on what it does best – solving problems for enterprises through its applications and services.
Workday and IBM have already been engaged in a strategic partnership where IBM uses Workday Human Capital Management for its own global workforce and offers Workday Consulting Services as part of its professional services. Although the partnership just announced is focused on development and testing in the cloud, Workday would expand the use of IBM cloud over multiple years. Good news for IBM and as Robert LeBlanc, SVP, IBM Cloud says:
“Leading enterprises like Workday continue to turn to IBM Cloud for its global reach, flexibility, and resiliency”
As Workday grows, this partnership has the potential to positively impact IBM’s IaaS and PaaS cloud revenue.
